The old Mandarin pop song "Formosa Serenade" was once mistakenly believed to refer to the island of Burnt Island, where political prisoners were held. This led some to fabricate a romantic and aesthetic story about the song being related to Burnt Island. In fact, the Green Island in the song actually refers to Taiwan Island. It was the first Mandarin song officially recorded in Taiwan. In 1987, Hong Kong screenwriter Nan Yan added Cantonese lyrics to the song, titled "The Light of Friendship," which became the theme song for the film "Prison on Fire," catapulting Nan Yan to fame.
